Rating: 3.25/5

Music: Pritam Chakraborty
Cinematography: Binod Pradhan
Director: Aziz Mirza
Producers: Kumar S Taurani & Ramesh S Taurani
Released Date: July 18, 2008
Story:
A simple yet sensible love story, the film is about Raj (Shahid Kapoor) who is the perfect man. He is the best student in his architectural college, first in sports and other activities, looks stunningly handsome and is blessed with a kind heart. Despite the perfection in him, the biggest challenge for him is to get the much needed break that will catapult his talent and project him to the world. He is just about to get what he wants and then fate seems to play a bit of bad luck on him. Raj gives up and finally decides to visit a crystal ball gazer Hasina Bano Jaan (Juhi Chawla) who flashes a quirky smile and announces that his good time is near and he will soon get what he wants but then she puts Raj in a puzzle by saying that he needs to hold on to his 'Kismat' to achieve all this. While Raj is still baffled, he moves and true to the prediction, he is able to convince the famous builder Sanjeev Gill (Om Puri) with his talent and bags a prestigious project. On the other hand there is Priya (Vidya Balan) who believes in making this world a better place and she would not hesitate to stand up to any situation all by herself to face the consequences. Raj chances upon Priya and conveys that he is the only one who can save her community centre from getting demolished and in this process he also manages to expose her fiancé (Amit Varma) and his flings with other women. There is also another challenge for Raj in the form of his old college foe Dave (Manoj Bohra) who is his foremost rival in business. Is Raj successful in keeping up his word? How does he handle the misdoings of Dave? What exactly is the good luck charm that he needs to hold on to? All this forms the rest of the story.
Presentation:
The director has not drifted from his regular formula and takes the film to an upward graph right from the word go. The presentation has been perfect though the narration lost out on its pace at some points. The script was well knit, the dialogues were neat, the screenplay was top notch, the music was good with three good numbers to its credit and the camera was fantastic in capturing the scenic locales of Canada. The editing could have been better during the second half but overall it was deft. Shahid has yet again proved that he is a true performer and the confidence was showing in him, Vidya is a natural beauty and does not need much work on her to look attractive. The best part- their chemistry looked excellent unlike all assumptions. Himani does a good job with her typical Punjabi accent, Juhi Chawla was boisterous but fitted the role well, Boman was not used to the fullest while Om Puri was perfect, both Manoj Bohra and Vishal Malhotra came up with impressive performances and made their presence felt on the screen. The rest were good and did their bits with ease.
Conclusion:
It always helps to watch a film which starts with a struggle and ends with a success and with the mysterious element of fate and luck attached to it, the plot gets more interesting. The first half of the film was good with a moderate and steady pace but then it was the second half which really went against the movie due to its lengthy drama to the finale. There was a moment or two when the audience looks here and there waiting for the actual thing to happen. The film may not leave an everlasting impact and give you a high but it will surely make you feel satisfied at the end of the tale. The makers will reap profits out of it easily without much hassle.

HARE RAM MOVIE REVIEW
Rating: 3/5
Banner: NTR Arts
Cast: Kalyan Ram, Priyamani, Kota, Sindhu Tolani, Brahmanandam, Ali, Seetha, Ashok Kumar, Chandramohan, Venu Madhav, Raghu Babu, Nutan Prasad, Apoorva and others
Music : Micky J Meyer
Cinematography: C Jayaram
Director: Harshavardhan
Producer: Kalyan Ram
Released Date: July 18, 2008
Story:
A confused tale, the film begins with the twins Hari and Ram (Kalyan Ram) who are of contrasting natures. While Hari is the more subtle and intelligent guy, Ram has a problem with his Medulla in brain, which makes him a cranky guy. He is unable to digest anyone's intelligence which makes him violent and killing prone. Unable to stand this, Ram's mother Vasundhara (Seetha) takes him away to lead a separate life when they are children. Soon Hari grows up to be an IPS officer and with the passing of his father (Chandramohan), he lives with his uncle and aunt (Chalapathi Rao & Sudha). On the other hand, Ram grows up to be the same violent guy with the Medulla problem and keeps hating his brother, since he is intelligent. He kills a news reporter (Prabhakar) and later the prominent doctor G K Reddy (Rajeev Kanakala), who happens to be the younger brother of health minister Siva Reddy (Kota), Hari gets to investigate the case and realizes that it is Ram who is doing all this. Meanwhile, there is the CBI officer Anjali (Priyamani), who suspects foul play with Hari and gets close to him with a hatched plan and finally arrests him suspecting him to be the killer. The suspense is revealed to her at a later stage and she realizes the truth about Hari and Ram through their mother. What is the real truth? Who is Sravani (Sindhu Tolani) in the midst of all this? Why does Ram kill the brother of the health minister and the news reporter? All this forms the rest of the story.
Presentation:
The director wanted to come out with a suspense concept and a scientific subject but then he lost his path as soon as he started. The presentation was good but the narration was outdated, the main culprit is the screenplay and the dialogues, which were disastrously lifeless. There was absolutely no intensity or punch in them to create an impact in the audience. However, the saving grace of the film is some really good music and three songs were worth watching and taking home, even the cinematography was professional and captured the shots perfectly. The stunt department did a good job which kept the audience busy. Costumes were alright but did not create the oomph for Priyamani as it was publicized. Coming to the cast, Kalyan Ram looked handsome and some of his scenes were apt, but then he still needs to work on intense scenes and expressions like showing anger and dialogue delivery. Overall he was likeable and he has worked very hard which needs to be appreciated. Priyamani was stylish but not sexy, she has this natural beauty which gives her a good screen presence but her character was not built correctly leaving no scope for performance. Kota was his regular self, Ashok Kumar was theatrical, Seetha was apt as a mother, the comedy tracks of Ali, Brahmanandam, Venu Madhav, Raghu Babu failed to evoke any laughter. The romantic track between the lead pair could have been better. The others were just about okay.
Conclusion:
The film which starts with a typical scientific problem actually puts all the cards on the table and the concept of suspense is lost then and there. Just when things were getting boring, a good twist is incorporated seconds before the interval, which builds good expectations on the second half but then the second half also proves disappointing with compelling sentimental scenes. The film lost its momentum due to discontinuity and two three tracks running parallely, so time was spent putting two and two together. Though the technical values were high, focus seemed to be more on the presentation and the makers missed out on the content and the correct conceptualization of the plot. Character building is important for any racy action treat and this was missing here. The film might manage to get some decent scores due to the good audio and the technical effects along with the hard work done by Kalyan, but commercially speaking, it might have to stand the test of time to know the actual outcome at the box office.
